temple for the destruction of art

What happens to art that won’t be archived or treasured in a collection? Should unsold, unseen work sit in storage until it is eventually thrown away due to lack of space? If art is something more precious, should it not instead be disposed of in a way that reflects its nature as more than mere objects?

At the temple, works are broken down into small parts, until they are not only unrecognisable, but also can fit into small sealed cubes. The inclusion of poured wax or plant matter signifies the ritualistic nature of the destructive act. The cubes are entirely portable, so they become reliquaries; reminders of something that once existed in a different form.

The artworks no longer serve a “purpose”, yet are given new purpose through their annihilation.
